Obituary for Martha J. Fraley

MARTHA J. FRALEY, age 95, formerly of Piqua, passed away Monday November 19, 2018 at 5:00 PM at Spring Meade Health Center, Tipp City, OH surrounded by her family. She was born in Xenia, OH on June 15, 1923 to the late Samuel and Melva (Dunlap) Boyd. She was married to Dennis Fraley on April 25, 1947. He preceded her in death in December 1973.

Martha is survived by two daughters: Joyce Paldino (Karen Kronenberger), Kettering, OH, Beverly Mikolajewski, Piqua, OH; one son and daughter-in-law: Doug (Sue) Fraley, Grove City, OH; six grandchildren: Micah Paldino (Marty Wisbey), Cincinnati, OH; Elizabeth (Reece) Woodruff, Kettering, OH; Sam (Kara) Mikolajewski, Piqua, OH; Ella (Keith) King, Delaware, OH; Chris (Kayleigh) Fraley, Orient, OH and Alex (Jill) Fraley, Louisville, KY; seven great-grandchildren: Vivian and Caroline Mikolajewski, Kooper and Sloan King, Maddox Fraley and Maya and Zoe Woodruff. Martha was preceded in death by one sister: Evelyn Wheeler and son-in-law: Dik Mikolajewski.

Martha graduated from Xenia High School, Xenia, OH. She was a member of Greene Street United Methodist Church, Piqua, OH for over 60 years. Some of Martha’s service at Greene Street UMC included the funeral meal committee, adult Sunday school teacher for over 40 years, and various other committees and the church council. For many years in the community, Martha served as a member of the Piqua Council of Churches and Chairperson of the Piqua Prayer Breakfast and the Single’s Group. Martha received the recognition of being Church Worker of the Year. She attended the Walk to Emmaus and served as Lay Director for many years. Martha was a Lay Delegate to West Ohio Annual Conference of United Methodist Churches and was honored with having her name on a designated chair. She participated in seminars at Scarritt College, Nashville, TN. She provided training for Lab Leaders for Laboratory School, provided training for Sunday Schools of local churches and attended National Sunday School Conference in Texas as a representative from Greene Street UMC. Martha was active in PTA in Piqua City Schools and was a loving homemaker. During her working career, Martha was employed by Brenner’s Insurance, Xenia, OH as an Administrative Assistant, J C Penney’s, Bradford Adjustment Company as an Administrative Assistant, she worked at Meals on Wheels, Grace Christian Book Store, and the YMCA. At SpringMeade she was involved in the Resident’s Council and led several bible studies.
Martha had a remarkable sense of adventure which led to travels to Japan and The Holy Land. One of her fondest memories was being on the Intermediate Lake in Michigan surrounded by her family.

A Celebration of Martha’s Life will be held Tuesday November 27, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Greene Street United Methodist Church, Piqua with Chaplain Ed Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua, OH. Friends may call on Monday November 26, 2018 from 4-7 P.M. at MELCHER-SOWERS FUNERAL HOME, Piqua, OH.
